CMC to optimize and strengthen cell materials

AkuPure™ sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) is especially suited for aqueous binder systems in lithium-ion battery anodes. 

SBR alone cannot generate sufficient coating rheology and slurry stability for graphite powder. Our AkuPure™ CMC can be coupled with graphite and styrene butadiene rubber (SBR) to improve battery performance.

  • Strengthens copper collector as an anode binder
  • Reinforces separator and prevents dendrite penetration as a ceramic binder

Applying AkuPure™ CMC provides excellent dispersion of graphite particles and homogenous distribution of the binder. Secondary lithium-ion batteries made using our CMC show high capacity retention at standard and high charge/discharge rates (C-rates).
