Celebrating Safety Day 2024
Revitalizing, Recommitting, and Reinforcing Our Life-Saving Rules
On September 18, Nouryon sites across the globe came together to celebrate Safety Day, an event dedicated to one of our most important commitments: ensuring the safety and well-being of every team member.
December 2024
This year’s Safety Day celebration focused on reinforcing the critical importance of our Nouryon Life-Saving Rules as vital to ensuring the safety and well-being of our employees and contractors. Even though we see these rules every day at our sites and practice the corresponding life-critical procedures in our daily work, it’s essential to take the time to focus on our rules together, so that we can refresh our understanding of and commitment to the life-saving measures that keep us safe.
As part of our efforts to Revitalize, Recommit, and Reinforce, we also enhanced the Nouryon Life-Saving Rules to make them clearer and more comprehensive. This includes the introduction of a new rule about always using prescribed personal protective equipment (PPE), which spotlights the importance of PPE in preventing injuries and saving lives.
In the weeks leading up to Safety Day, Nouryon teams around the world organized creative and meaningful activities to bring Safety Day to life – and engaged in Viva Engage discussions where team members shared insights on everything from the Golden Rule to the new PPE rule, to the many ways in which they are #LivingOurRules.
At the Green Bay (Expancel) and Howard (Silica), US, locations, team members developed interactive activities for each of the Life-Saving Rules – from hazard recognition games to quizzes. Once completing all safety stations, site employees received a fire blanket and the chance to enter a raffle with safety related prizes for their homes.
In Chicago (IL, USA), after the Safety Day Town Hall, the annual Kahoot! game proved to be a popular attraction, offering a dynamic and interactive way to reinforce the team’s knowledge of our rules and their collective dedication to safety.
For our team in Poznań, Poland, Safety Day included a meeting led by the Site Director, followed by an Health, Safety and Environment presentation on the updated Life-Saving Rules, with a focus on the new PPE rule. After a quick snack break, the day concluded with a practical first aid class.
The Wrocław, Poland site began Safety Day with department discussions about the Life-Saving Rules, followed by a Town Hall – where the site manager handed out LSR-branded gift bags that included mugs sporting the new PPE rule. But everyone agreed the best “gift” was the opportunity to share safety insights and raise the bar on our safety culture!
Our Latin American sites enjoyed a special breakfast for the employees and contractors. Team members participated in a Town Hall that showcased our rules in action in different site functions, and everyone proudly wore T-shirts specially designed for Safety Day.
Our sites in Asia channeled their inner filmmakers and created a series of videos spotlighting how they are #LivingOurRules with their team initiatives and collaborative efforts.
These activities – and so many others – emphasized our global team's dedication to fostering a proactive safety culture, demonstrating how our team members not only know our most critical rules, but truly live them every day.
Safety Day may have passed, but the work of revitalizing, recommitting to, and reinforcing our Life-Saving Rules continues. Sharing best practices and keeping the conversation going are essential to maintaining a strong safety culture. By exchanging ideas, discussing real-world experiences, and learning from each other, we can ensure that our commitment to safety is not just a one-day event but an ongoing effort. Every conversation and shared insight helps reinforce how we protect ourselves and each other.
Let’s keep engaging, collaborating, and #LivingOurRules to make Nouryon an even safer place to work!
