December 2022

As the 2022 calendar year comes to a close, we reflect on key business highlights of delivering on our growth ambitions from the past year:

  • Prioritized health and safety in our operations and continued to be recognized as an industry leader in people safety. For example, we received 17 safety awards from industry associations in the US for our strong performance in safety and environmental stewardship.
  • Delivered strong profitability during a challenging period that included the highest inflation in nearly 40 years. Additionally, we expended a record amount of capital for the company, including our green chelates projects in Lima, OH, US, and in Herkenbosch, Netherlands.
  • Made progress on our ‘Commitment to a Sustainable Future’, earned an EcoVadis Platinum rating, as well as a Sustainability Leadership Award from the American Chemistry Council (ACC) for our product Agrilan® 1015, a biodegradable dispersant. As part of our efforts to decarbonize our operations, Nouryon set new ambitious targets. We also achieved carbon neutrality, in Scopes 1 and 2, at five manufacturing sites, located in Brazil.
  • Continued to build a leading portfolio, partnering with Suzano to support a new $2.8 billion eucalyptus pulp mill in Brazil, and entered into a definitive agreement to acquire ADOB Fertilizers.
  • Innovated in our key end-markets to serve our customers’ needs, introducing several new sustainable products, such as Expancel® HP92 microspheres for the automotive industry and Bermocoll® FLOW cellulose ethers for both interior and exterior decorative paints.

  • Expanded our business operations to support our regional and emerging market growth plans. We opened an Innovation Center in Bridgewater, NJ, US, an Agricultural Application Development Center in Itupeva, Brazil, started full-scale production at our organic peroxide greenfield site in Tianjin, China, and expanded our office and research center in Mumbai, India, as well as our offices in Radnor, PA, US, Gothenburg, Sweden, and Amsterdam, Netherlands.
  • Continued to build an inclusive, diverse, and respectful work environment, creating a global Inclusion and Diversity (I&D) Network and four employee-led Business Resource Groups (BRGs) comprised of more than 800 members.
  • Made a positive impact through our strong ethics, and with volunteerism, engagement, and corporate giving in mind. For example, we pledged donations to the International Committee of the Red Cross and Global Giving Ukraine Relief Fund to support humanitarian aid for civilians in Ukraine, and committed $300,000 to the Philadelphia Eagles Autism Challenge. We also hosted our first-ever Global Month of Service to give back to local communities.
