In a world seeking more circular solutions that help reduce waste and environmental impact, innovative recycling methods are more crucial than ever.

Nouryon is at the forefront of this circular innovation, with a groundbreaking technology that redefines the possibilities for the reuse of polymers, polypropylene, and polyethylene. By enhancing the melt properties of recycled plastics, we make it possible for more polymer-based materials to be repurposed indefinitely, maintaining high quality, and helping avoid waste.

How Nouryon’s Technology Works

The production of everyday items involves various methods, each of which necessitates polymers with specific melt properties. When these items reach the end of their life, they become part of a mix of plastic waste destined for recycling. Traditionally, the diverse melt properties of these polymers have posed significant challenges.

Alain Rynwalt, Senior Vice President, Performance Materials at Nouryon, explains, “The variety in polymer melt properties has long been a barrier, limiting their reuse in different production processes. This is where our new innovative technology truly excels. By precisely tuning the melt properties of recycled plastics, our technology can match the requirements of various end uses. This breakthrough means that more recycled plastic can be used to create new products without compromising on quality, regardless of the production process involved.”

Our technology is seamlessly integrated at the extrusion step, the final phase of the mechanical recycling process. Activated by heat, our product decomposes to generate reactive radicals, which effectively modify the recycled material. What's remarkable is that this technology leaves only trace amounts in the final recycled material, measured in parts per million (ppm). This feature enables manufacturers to confidently claim 100% recycled content.

More Recycling Possibilities Mean Less Waste

The transformative power of this technology allows manufacturers to incorporate high recycled content into their products without sacrificing quality. As Alain Rynwalt points out, “Our innovation allows our customers and manufacturers to utilize high recycled content in their products repeatedly. From packaging to garden furniture, a multitude of industries can now integrate high-quality recycled plastics into their products, supporting a more circular economy and reducing waste.”

Towards a Sustainable Future

We are committed to driving sustainable innovation that also supports our customers’ sustainability goals. In revolutionizing the polymer recycling process, we enhance the quality and versatility of recycled materials, all in line with our commitment to a more sustainable future.
