Nouryon, a global specialty chemicals leader, continues to adapt to increasing consumer preferences for greener cleaning products in North America. To meet demand from its customers in the cleaning market for products that are sustainable and comply with new US regulations, the essential solutions provider is launching several degreasers and cleaners with low-dioxane levels.
“New York and California enacted regulations requiring cleaning products to contain low 1,4-dioxane levels,” explained Suzanne Carroll, Nouryon’s Vice President of Home and Personal Care. “Nouryon’s new low-dioxane products enable our customers to transition existing formulations or create new ones that comply with these regulations – some of the strictest in the US.”
Carroll continued: “Meeting evolving customer and regulatory needs is a critical part of Nouryon’s commitment to the cleaning market. We continue to innovate to benefit the cleaning industry by making our solutions more sustainable without compromising on performance. Our innovative process also makes formulating for our customers more cost effective and offers the possibility to optimize raw material purchases, reduce inventories, and simplify production.”
Nouryon’s low-dioxane portfolio includes degreasers and cleaners from the Berol and Ethylan product lines. These are produced using a proprietary process that reduces the amount of 1,4-dioxane created as a byproduct.
All products within Nouryon’s low-dioxane portfolio are also CleanGredients, meeting the US EPA’s Safer Choice Standard. They include:
- Berol 226 SA: Synergistic surfactant blend for optimized cleaning and easy handling
- Berol 260 and 266: Primary surfactant performance degreasers
- Berol 609: Nonyl phenol ethoxylate replacement technology
- Berol DR-B1: Performance cleaner for outside usage, qualified for direct release into the environment
- Ethylan 1005: Low foam, low aquatic toxicity primary surfactant degreasers
