Nouryon to Co-host the Icos Capital Innovation Summit Accelerating Sustainability in Sweden

26 Sep 2022 - News

Nouryon is co-hosting the Icos Capital Innovation Summit Accelerating Sustainability on September 27 in Gothenburg, Sweden. The summit brings startups, corporations, and industry experts in climate tech together. Partnering with the technology venture capital company Icos Capital, Nouryon is hosting a special session on sustainable chemicals and materials including bio-based and digital solutions. The summit will include speakers and discussions around carbon tech, circular materials such as textiles and feature pitches from exciting startups in these industries.

“At Nouryon, we believe that being open to the ideas and enthusiasm of outside collaborators is an important element to help us reach our ambitious targets to continuously improve our environmental performance. We therefore work closely both with customers to develop solutions that meet their changing needs, and forge partnerships with external parties such as startups whose unique ideas complement our experience, resources, and business needs,” said Staffan Asplund, Performance Formulations R&D and Technology Director at Nouryon.

Nouryon’s corporate partnership with Icos Capital goes back to 2017 and has enabled several strategic partnerhip discussions and insight into innovation critical to Nouryon. With an annual commitment, Nouryon is looking to invest in fast growth industrial climate tech companies with a focus on accelerating sustainability.

“Nouryon is making good progress in the early stages of our decarbonization strategy that includes short and long-term initiatives, and we continually explore collaboration opportunities to evaluate and deploy new innovative technologies such as those in the Icos Capital Fund III. Our co-hosted summit in Sweden is a tailored event that supports Nouryon’s innovation priorities including our aspiration to be a net-zero organization by 2050,” said Vivi Hollertt, Chief Sustainability and Communications Officer at Nouryon.

Nouryon is a member of the West Sweden Chemicals and Material Cluster and has a strong presence in West Sweden with production facilities and innovation centers in Stenungsund and Bohus as well as Nouryon’s largest office, the newly established Nordic Business Center in Gothenburg.

Several of Nouryon’s most high-profile inventions originated in Sweden. For example, Kromasil®, a key component in a unique technology for purifying insulin; Expancel® expandable microspheres which can reduce cost and weight of cool-roof coatings and provide greater elasticity; and Levasil® and Bermocoll® for high-quality, long-lasting water-based paints

Nouryon is tracking well on its sustainability commitment, which is reported in our annual Sustainability Report. Nouryon has set ambitious 2030 sustainability targets, which include reducing operational greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) for Scopes 1 and 2 by 40%, reducing water consumption intensity by 10% and reducing total waste intensity by 10%, versus a 2019 base year. By 2050, the company aspires to be a net-zero organization.
