Puroxide - Carbon Footprint close to Zero

 

Puroxide is a Nouryon Eco-Premium Solution to combat climate change, and a way for our customers to reduce their scope 3 emissions.

In our production plant, we are producing sodium chlorate and hydrogen peroxide products. They are interlinked in a beneficial way which enables us to deliver
low-carbon footprint products.

Eka® HP PuroxideTM -a circular way to produce hydrogen peroxide

 

Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is produced from hydrogen gas (H2) and oxygen (O2). Traditionally, hydrogen gas is produced using fossil natural gas in a steam reformer. In contrast, Puroxide utilizes only fossil-free hydrogen gas.

Puroxide production 

Sodium chlorate production: salt and water together with fossil-free electricity are used as inputs.

Puroxide hydrogen peroxide production: fossil-free hydrogen gas from sodium chlorate production together with oxygen from air are used as raw materials which gives a carbon footprint close to zero.

Deliveries: are made by train, or truck with HVO100 fuel when possible.

Carbon Footprint close to zero

Due to the threat of climate change we have set up ambitious targets for ourselves for our scope 1 and 2 emissions which will reduce our carbon footprint and support our customers in their scope 3 reductions. Nouryon has an aspiration to become a net zero organisation by 2050.

In Sweden, we only use non-fossil-based electricity and by utilizing fossil-free hydrogen gas, we minimize environmental impacts.

By using Eka® HP PuroxideTM, the reduction in carbon footprint can be as high as 90% versus steam reforming (SR) of natural gas (NG).

Eka® HP PuroxideTM has a near-zero carbon footprint.

 

Production of hydrogen peroxide by Water Electrolysis 

 Nouryon is the sole hydrogen peroxide producer in Europe that employs water electrolysis, where water (H2O) is split into hydrogen gas (H2) and oxygen gas (O2). We have been utilizing water electrolysis technology since 1992. The only inputs used in this process are water, electricity, and oxygen.
