Detailed description

Trigonox® K-LC may be used for various polymerization reactions. It can be used in emulsion, solution and bulk polymerizations. In emulsion processes, Trigonox® K-LC may be activated by organic-soluble or water-soluble reducing agents, or by metal compounds to achieve polymerization at room temperature or lower. When no accelerators are used, effective polymerization can be obtained in the temperature range of 50-200°C. For example, styrene and methyl methacrylate can be polymerized in bulk in the temperature range of 60-100°C using Trigonox® K-LC. Trigonox® K-LC may also be used for emulsion polymerization of various vinyl monomers. In this case Trigonox® K-LC may be used in combination with reducing agents to achieve reproducible results at low temperatures.

Thermoset composites

Detailed description

Trigonox® K-LC can be used as curing agent for unsaturated polyester resins. Trigonox® K-LC is the low cumene version of Trigonox® K-90. It therefore does not carry a carcinogen labelling. Just like Trigonox® K-90 it may be used as an initiator for the room temperature cure of promoted unsaturated polyester and vinyl ester resins, and elevated temperature cure of non-promoted resins. Especially developed for curing vinylester resins in combination with a cobalt accelerator. The reactivity of Trigonox® K-LC has proven to be the same as for Trigonox® K-90. Trigonox® K-LC can also be a substitute for Trigonox® K-80 but in that case of course the intake levels need to be adjusted pro rato. Without the addition of an accelerator the polymerization starts only above the activation temperature of 90°C. For the cure at lower temperature Trigonox® K-LC must be accelerated by for example cobalt. Together with cobalt accelerators the gel time at room temperature is very long and is therefore particularly suitable for those applications where a long production time is required, for instance in the production of large parts and in filament winding. Sufficiently fast gel and cure times are only obtained above a processing temperature of 35°C.

Trigonox® K-LC is an organic hydroperoxide suitable for use in fracking fluids. It can be used to break down the polymers used in hydraulic fracturing operations as an efficient and cost-effective alternative to encapsulated persulfates. Trigonox® K-LC exhibits exceptional performance in breaking down guar-based fracking fluids, ensuring a complete and efficient polymer degradation thereby improving the flow of oil or gas. An accelerator (e.g. reducing agent) can be used to further enhance the performance and reduce the activation temperature of Trigonox® K-LC. This allows for faster and more effective breaking of polymers, even at lower temperatures. Trigonox® K-LC is ideal for use in all types of fracking operations, including shale gas extraction, oil recovery and coalbed methane production.
