At a glance
Significant gains in 2023 exemplify our strong and continued commitment to sustainability. Notable achievements* include a 78% decrease in process safety incidents and a 3% reduction in the OSHA Incident Rate - positioning our people safety performance in the top quartile. We also achieved* a 14% reduction in GHG emissions and sourced over half of our electricity consumption from renewable and/or low-carbon sources, awarding us a CDP A- score for climate leadership and a top 5% ranking Gold rating from EcoVadis.
Additionally, 74% of our R&D product pipeline was dedicated to sustainable solutions, and we assessed 66% of supplier spend through the EcoVadis platform, and over 90% for CSR risks. Our commitment to sustainable practices was further reinforced by joining the Together for Sustainability coalition, reflecting our dedication to an industry-wide effort to contribute to a more sustainable future.
In 2023, we continued to improve our key people and process safety metrics versus our 2019 baseline year. We also made progress against our targets to reduce our environmental footprint. Last year, we achieved a 14% reduction in our absolute Scopes 1 and 2 emissions versus our base year of 2019. We have also improved our methodology for our Scope 3 emissions inventory, which covers calculated emissions across the entire value chain.

Growing and Innovating Our Essential and Sustainable Solutions
In 2023, among many significant product launches to offer customers more sustainable solutions, 74% of our product innovation pipeline came from our Eco-Solutions and 32% of revenue came from our Eco-Premium Solutions. We also expanded our Application Development Centers in Deventer, the Netherlands, and Chattanooga, Tennessee, US, to offer advanced technical service capabilities dedicated to the cleaning end-markets in Europe and North America.

This will bolster Arauco's manufacturing capabilities and position to better meet the growing global demand in the paper and pulp market, optimize their systems and cost controls as well as increase their production reliability.

In 2023, we assessed 66% of supplier spend was evaluated on CSR performance by an EcoVadis score and 90% of our supplier spend for CSR risk using the EcoVadis Risk IQ tool. We introduced our Changemakers Employer Brand and Leadership Capabilities Framework, and welcomed approximately 1,411 new hires worldwide, marking an increase of almost 4.5% compared to 2022. Our outreach with communities around the world continued with many philanthropy initiatives and volunteerism opportunities for our employees.
