About the job
The Global Packaging Technologist is the Packaging Expert & Licensor for metal alkyls and metallocenes. This is a global role and essential, not only for design and technical know-how, but also in supporting the business to bring the products to the customers.

Special characteristics of metal alkyls and metallocenes require safe and inert delivery method to the customers. In practice the products will need to be packaged and transported in pressure containers, specially designed for the products.

 

You will work in a team within the Technology Group Polymer Specialties, supporting the metal alkyls and metallocenes business. The Technology Group Polymer Specialties in Deventer is responsible for know-how, design specifications, optimization, and safety of our manufacturing processes and product packaging.

 

 

In your future role as Packaging Expert & Licensor you will, among others,

Licensing, Know-how, and Engineering:

  • Work with metal alkyls and other oxygen and water sensitive products, such as metallocenes. Metal alkyls are pyrophorics, meaning that it will catch on fire when exposed to air. Metal alkyls are also incompatible (very reactive) with water.
  • Define the technical requirements (specifications, maintenance, testing) related to product containers. Metal alkyls are packaged and transported in special product containers (such as cylinders, portable containers, and Iso containers).
  • Act as packaging licensor to approve the use and transport of product containers while considering the design and regulatory compliance.
  • Keep an up-to-date knowledge of the transport regulations, regarding construction, testing, and transport/shipment of fleet items.
  • Continuously driving for improvement to benefit Nouryon, considering the differences in fleet and regional requirements.

 

 

 

Business Support:

  • Generate packaging data sheets, technical bulletins and instruction materials for supporting the marketing teams and customers.
  • Provide design recommendations regarding loading facilities and (un)loading procedures to customers. Conduct periodic safety assessments and perform incident response for transportation and customer unloading facilities.
  • Respond to queries from customers related to packaging, transport and delivery method to customers, which are technical in nature.
  • Act as technical expert during emergency response in case of incidents/calamities with Metal Alkyl at customers and or during transit to the customers.

 

We believe you bring

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, higher technical vocational education related to chemical industry, 
  • Shown proficiency by experience, e.g. shift supervisors, operator trainers and experienced operators.
  • More than 5 years of experience in chemical industry with technical background, working with dangerous goods.
  • Hands-on experience in manufacturing and technical skills, including expertise in interpreting and creating AutoCAD drawings,

 

Great if you have

  • Experience in packaging materials and packaging technology in the field of dangerous goods.
  • Metal alkyl handling experience.
  • Knowledge of applicable legislation/ recommendation (ADR, UN orange book, GHS purple Book).
  • Good presentation and communication skills.
  • Ability to handle multi-cultural and diverse environments.
  • Excellent communication skills in English and Dutch, both spoken and written.

Our Polymer Specialties business manufactures and supplies essential ingredients and sustainable solutions for the polymer industry. These are organic peroxides, co-catalysts (metal alkyls) and other specialty additives used in the production and processing of polymers.
