Section Manager – Product Chemistry


The Section Manager Product Chemistry (PC) manages a highly technical team of chemists and chemical engineers in the development and synthesis of new surfactant products and polymers, and improved manufacturing processes. In addition, the PC group supports various application research and development teams, the health safety and environmental department, the technology team and production. New products and processes are developed and deployed into routine manufacturing at multiple production locations. The section manager is also responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of multiple autoclave reactors.

In your future role as Section Manager, you will 

  • Create and foster a safe/attractive work environment for all employees where challenging goals are mutually agreed upon that contribute to the goals of the company
  • Manage the workflow of the Product Chemistry group for surfactants & polymers 
  • Manage day-to-day operations of group with respect to work planning, prioritization, budgets, deadlines & reporting 
  • Ensure that laboratories are safe & compliant
  • Maintain proper inventory levels & ensure chemicals are being stored in adherence to proper codes & regulations 
  • Review & revise processes  
  • Collect & share knowledge that can be used to defend patent positions, support changes in manufacturing processes, challenge/support customer complaints/requests regarding product quality & performance
  • Attract, coach & develop scientists, project managers & other team members 
  • Understand the needs of the business and ensure that proper training is administered to team members to ensure a robust knowledge base 
  • Create & foster a “center of expertise” mentality within the Product Chemistry group 

We believe you bring

  • PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a similar discipline; MSc w/10+ years of relevant experience could also suffice 
  • 5-7 years of experience
  • Experience in management/organic chemistry/product management 
  • Experience in organic synthesis, analytical chemistry & chemical engineering 
  • Leadership/managerial experience 
  • Strong communication & interpersonal skills
  • Problem-solving skills
