Program Manager, Global Carbon Business Strategy


The purpose of this role is to support the Carbon Business Strategy for Nouryon, focusing on carbon reduction programs to achieve our targets. This role will lead carbon reduction workstreams with key stakeholders, facilitate regular communication and alignment with senior leadership, and track progress in the Carbon Roadmap. This role will also look for opportunities to monetize initiatives related to the carbon business, including evaluating programs/projects to generate carbon credits. This role will have significant impact on achieving Nouryon’s Sustainability goals and Carbon Reduction targets.

In your future role as Program Manager, Global Carbon Business Strategy you will 

  • Lead the planning and implementation of the carbon reduction program and track supporting projects. 
  • Lead the carbon reduction input to the Product Line Strategy reviews. Provide data and analysis to each product line for inclusion in the reviews. Additionally, track innovation and technology shifts, including the ones related to Low Carbon Raw Material Strategy, look for opportunities for collaboration in Nouryon’s value chain, promoting circular economy & improve end of life solutions for our products.
  • Work with Integrated Supply Chain and Energy teams to manage carbon reduction workstreams to include:
    • Scope 1: Projects will focus on operational efficiency in carbon through reducing energy consumption, improving efficiency in operations, switching to cleaner energy in fuels, and electrification.
    • Scope 2: Work with the Nouryon Energy Team to support projects that reduce electricity consumption from utilities, add on-site renewable energy projects, explore off-site renewable energy projects, find available low-carbon electricity, and acquire steam from lower carbon sources.
    • Scope 3: Support the development of the Low Carbon Raw Material Strategy and support Procurement in its implementation. When ready, support Logistics in a carbon reduction strategy. Additionally, look for opportunities for collaboration in Nouryon’s value chain, promoting circular economy & improve end of life solutions for our products, and monitoring carbon reduction opportunities in fuel/energy related activities not included in Scope 1 and 2
  • Look for opportunities to monetize initiatives related to the Carbon Business, including evaluating programs/projects to generate carbon credits.
  • Work with site and functional teams to identify and evaluate carbon reduction opportunities.
  • Lead workshops on carbon reduction as required.
  • Support the Innovation and Technology teams, including support for life cycle assessments and product carbon footprints. 
  • Stay current on relevant standards and regulations related to carbon and carbon credits. Work with the Government & Regulatory Affairs team on subsidies and incentives as well as carbon tax regimes and voluntary and compliance carbon markets.
  • Support the business teams with presentations to customers related to decarbonization
  • Support our teams in carbon reduction expert groups in industry associations including American Chemistry Council and the European Chemical Industry Council (Cefic.)
  • Review Sustainability communications related to carbon reduction and make recommendations to the Global Carbon Business Leader.
  • Provide carbon reduction data to annual Sustainability reports including Nouryon’s Sustainability Report and applications for Ecovadis, CDP, and others as required.
  • Support customer request for carbon reduction plans through the relevant business sales or marketing team.
  • Request and manage the Summer intern.

We believe you bring

  • Bachelor's degree in the field of business, engineering, or sciences
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience leading or directing project portfolio management 
  • Five or more years demonstrated experience handling stakeholders of all levels
  • Experience with sustainability and/or carbon reduction specifically is preferred 
  • Experience working in chemicals or related industry preferred 
  • Excellent leadership & organizational skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities 
  • Effective communication & interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple priorities
  • Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, and project management software 
  • Experience with PowerBI, SAP, ANT (mckinseywave), LTAP, RFA, and/or Enablon is a bonus
