About the job

Join our team as a Process Safety Engineer at Stenungsund, where you'll play a pivotal role in advancing our process safety standards and compliance. You'll oversee key processes such as process safety training, hazard studies (HAZOP, LOPA, SIL), and flammable material management, while leading our site in aligning with the Nouryon Process Safety Management (PSM) framework to drive safety excellence.

In your future role as Process Safety Engineer you will

  • Support PQC manager in building strategic function of team (process safety engineers)
  • Ensures team are following engineering standards and other standards and laws relevant for product & process safety
  • Maintain and develop routines related to process safety 
  • Take decisions and actions in process safety related areas to prevent process incidents to occur/reoccur and thereby keep the process safety risks at a tolerable level.
  • Leads a site / project hazard study team for any type of hazard study (HS1-6, HazOp, HazDem/HazCom, LOPA, QRA)
  • Provide process safety competency, own or external, to support the line organization
  • Propose and/or manage projects related to process safety.
  • Be responsible for maintaining Process Safety Competencies (PSC) required for the site.
  • Act as mentor for site colleagues working in the area of process safety
  • Lead investigations related to process safety


We believe you bring

  • Master of Science in Chemical Engineering or similar.
  • Relevant experience, at least 5 years, in the area of process safety, process design or operation in chemical industry.
  • Understand the relevance and significance of properties of flammable materials, the process and the equipment to identify sources and grade of release.
  • Experience in leading conceptual, preliminary, and detailed PHAs; good understanding of all stages of a PHA and when to apply them. 
  • Competent in leading What-If, HAZOP, and FMEA studies.  Awareness of when to apply the specialist tools of hazard/consequence assessment, and when to seek specialist support.  
  • Root cause analysis
  • Broad awareness of all aspects of Process Safety and HSE Management.  
  • Good proficiency in Swedish and English, both spoken and written
