Welder


The Welder reports to the Maintenance Supervisor and receives direction and guidance from same. Must be familiar with plant process piping and piping material. Works in conjunction with the Master Mechanic, Maintenance Mechanic, and Plumber on plant equipment, coordinating welding efforts to complete job properly and timely. Maintains and cares for all piping, supports, and related equipment. Operates welding equipment within the controlling characteristics of the equipment. Repairs, maintains, and fabricates such things as supports, handrails, guardrails, stairs, cat-walks, and others requiring welded joints.

The Welder also ensures safety of material, piping, and equipment before performing work. Leaves a clean and orderly work area after performing maintenance repairs, replacement or installation of process piping.

In your future role as Welder you will 

  • Under general supervision, operate welding equipment w/in the controlling characteristics of the equipment 
  • Perform duties such as:
    • Welding all metals
    • Setting welding machine to proper amperage for size of rod or wire and type of metal being welded
    • Operate positioning, clamping, turnover or other devices attendant to welding fixtures or machines, removes slag from welds by chipping or brushing, manually or using hand tools
  • Keep equipment and work area clean and orderly
  • Occasionally assist in job instructions of junior Production Welders
  • Perform incidental maintenance duties as directed or assigned by supervision or maintenance lead person
  • Drive forklift to carry tools to and from job site only
  • Follow safety procedures on Lock-Outs, Tank Entry, Hot-Work Permits, and proper use of mechanical devices
  • Work in a safe and orderly manner, using procedures and safety equipment
  • Perform preventive maintenance on all assigned equipment. Follow proper frequency, analysis, and reporting disciplines 

We believe you bring

  • 4 years’ previous experience 
  • Ability to work from blueprints or special verbal or written instructions 
  • Ability to weld overhead and vertical up and down with stick electrode
  • Must pass company’s welding test by demonstrating sufficient ability to weld heliarc & stick; must pass company welding test to certify on pressure tanks.
  • Commitment to health, safety, environment, security and quality
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment 

Good to Know

Employee must be able to work in plant environments. This role will have some exposure to fumes & dust. Potential exposure to hazardous/toxic chemicals. Employee may have to handle 50 – 100 lbs at a time.
