Process Engineer
This position is an individual contributor that is responsible for leading process, safety, and quality improvements at the Nouryon Battleground site. Battleground primarily produces metal alkyls, sold primarily as co-catalysts to major thermoplastic resins and rubber manufacturers (producers of polyethylene, polypropylene, and EPDM). The product line is complex with over 30 metal alkyl products (plus formulations) produced at Battleground. Products are extremely hazardous (pyrophoric, meaning they ignite on contact with air) and are highly reactive with water. The site also manufactures High Purity Metal Organics (HPMO) for the semi-conductor and LED industries

In your future role as a Process Engineer you will
- Lead and implement site improvements for site KPIs (OEE, reliability, RFT etc)
- Provide technical support for plant processes during normal operation and upsets
- Facilitate and resolve findings from hazard and operability studies (HAZOP) and hazard assessments
- Lead root cause investigations for incidents near and misses
- Lead process design efforts for small and medium Capex projects
- Provide technical and analytical expertise for internal and external customers on problems arising from manufacture and use of organometallic compounds, including preparation of 8D corrective action reports
- Technical liaison for suppliers and customers to perform audits, review specifications, and provide documentation on demand, including supporting internal audits
- Support the quality assurance/quality control department with data analysis, statistical process control (SPC) data collection/preparation, and act as a liaison between the commercial business
We believe you bring
- Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering and 6+ years of experience working in a chemical plant or manufacturing facilityExperience (describe in basic, deep, extensive experience…NOT years)
- Lead root cause investigation and failure analysis
- Experience with process design, heat balance, and material balance
- Experience with project management and implementation
- Experience with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement principles and tools (e.g. 6 sigma)
- Be able to climb stairs and ladders
- Be able to wear respirator, steel toed shoes, and hard hat
Great if you have
- Experience with statistical analysis software (JMP, Minitab, etc) preferred
- ISO 9001 & RC/ISO 14001 management systems experience preferred

- Understand and help implement the site’s Operating Policy, and HSSE goals and objectives
- Support and participate in on-going HSSE improvement activities and committees.
- Be aware of potential health, safety, security and environmental impacts in area of responsibility and the consequences if an upset occurs.
- Understand and implement any parts of the Battleground Environmental Compliance Plan and Waste Management Plan that apply to area of responsibility.
- Participate in the site’s on-going Pollution Prevention Process.
- Participate and adhere to all applicable government regulations regarding process safety and environmental compliance responsibilities for the site. Nouryon Battleground is an OSHA PSM covered site.
- Understand and assist with upkeep of process safety information as required by role.
- Maintain a strong understanding of process safety and PSM management including the OSHA 14 elements of process safety and Nouryon 21 building blocks
Quality Specific Responsibilities
- Lead root cause investigation and failure analysis
- Understand and help implement the site’s Quality Policy, Quality goals and objectives, and the Quality Improvement Process (MTQ).
- Be fully aware of your specific quality assurance responsibilities.
- Be familiar with site-wide document control, internal quality audits, corrective action, non-conforming product and record keeping procedures.
- Be sure employees under supervision, if applicable, are aware of and are adequately trained in quality procedures
